Nelson 1sts secured their second straight League Victory and moved to 3rd in the League when they travelled to Great Harwood last Sunday.
Losing the toss, the visitors were asked to bat first in what were favourable bowling conditions for the fielding side.
Nelson had slipped to 32-3, then 72-5, but key middle order partnerships helped the 1st XI rebuild their innings.
Knowing that every run was going to be crucial in the 2nd innings, Neil Thompson (21), Hassan Fazal (32) & Tom Bradshaw (24 not out) showed great application to see Nelson finish on 166 all out in the final over.
Neil Thompson & Hassan Fazal opened the bowling and immediately set the tone. Making use of the conditions on offer, Thompson finished with the miserly figures of 3-20 from his 15 overs & Fazal also took 3-32.
Great Harwood had slipped to 103-9 when the home side looked down & out, needing 63 for victory. A fantastic innings from the hosts’ number 10 gave Nelson a scare, but the visitors managed to take the final wicket just in time to secure a 6 run victory.
The 1st XI have a busy Bank Holiday weekend ahead, hosting Colne Cricket Club in the Scuderi Shield tonight, before also hosting Church on Sunday in the League.
The 2nds remain second in the table following a no result at home against Burnley on Saturday – The visitors reached 194-8 from their 45 overs. Gul Sabir had taken 3-56 and Nick Burton 2-31 before the rain set in and no further play was possible. The 2nds face Darwen at home this Saturday in the 2nds round of the cup before travelling to last year’s league winners, Todmorden, on Sunday.

Nelson 1sts returned to winning ways at the weekend with a convincing victory over Rawtenstall at Seedhill on Sunday, securing the win by 4:30pm.
After losing the toss, Nelson were asked to field first. They wasted no time making early inroads into the visitors top order, with Hassan Fazal claiming the first two wickets in quick succession to leave Rawtenstall struggling at 11-2.
From there, opening partner Sam Kelly ripped through the visitors batting line up. Kelly claimed the next four wickets, including the prized scalp of the Rawtenstall professional for just a single, as the scoreboard slipped to 46-6.
Sam completed his maiden five-wicket haul for Nelson a few overs later, capping off an impressive opening spell with figures of 5-36 from 11 overs.
Skipper Tyler McGladdery also chipped in with three wickets as Rawtenstall were bowled out for just 68.
In reply, professional Tyler McGladdery led the chase with an unbeaten 40 as Nelson cruised to victory in the 17th over for the loss of three wickets.
Nelson have now registered three wins from their opening four league fixtures and will travel to Great Harwood on Sunday.
The 2nds travelled to Clitheroe on Sunday and picked up a nail biting win, getting home in the final over with one wicket remaining.
Clitheroe made 220-9 from their 45 overs after winning the toss, with Saj Asghar picking up 4-51.
In reply, Nelson fell to 93-7 before excellent partnerships from the tail (Saj 46*, Haroon 42 and Brooker-Carey 19*) saw them over the line with just 3 balls to spare. The win and 10 points take Chris Brooker-Carey’s men up to 2nd in Junior Division 1.

The club offers women’s softball cricket, featuring competitive and social play in local leagues, including the LCF Women’s Softball League 2. The club hosts “Women’s Wednesdays” and last season saw success, with the team competing in league fixtures and during the 2025 season.

Our mid-week team started the season with an exciting win last Thursday away against Sabden.

Sabden batting first posted a great score of 151/4 off their 15 overs and it looked like a tall order to achieve a winning total in the light that was fading fast .Dan Young and Ibby opened the batting and got Nelson off to a great start both having to retire at 30

Ben Thurston and James Young kept the momentum going and also had to retire when reaching 30, the score looking good and up with the required run rate ….. Chris Moore playing his first game for the club was starved of the strike and Sabden took with wickets of Ben Rothwell, Chris Hodgeson, Steve Turner and Mark Berry without any runs being scored

Two overs to go and Chris at the wicket he scored 14 off the next to last over which proved to be an important knock …leaving 4 required from the final over and only 2 wickets left .. a couple of singles from the first few balls and with 3 balls to go Flnn middled a great shot through mid wicket for 4 to win the game

Nelson’s unbeaten start to the season came to an end last weekend following defeats in both the Worsley Cup and the League.
On Saturday, Nelson travelled to Rishton and elected to bat first after winning the toss. A solid start from Sam Holt (23) and Professional Tyler McGladdery (38) saw the visitors reach 56-1, before a middle-order collapse left Nelson struggling at 80-6.
Ben Dinning (33*) and Khurram Nazir (28) added some valuable lower-order runs, helping Nelson post 161 all out in the 44th over.
Nelson battled hard in the field and reduced Rishton to 107-6, with McGladdery returning impressive figures of 2-30 from his 10 overs, including the wicket of the home side’s Professional. However, a strong middle-order partnership guided Rishton to a four-wicket win in the 41st over.
Sunday saw Nelson travel to Rochdale in difficult, cold and damp conditions. After winning the toss and choosing to bowl, Sam Kelly and Hassan Fazal produced an excellent opening spell, conceding just 34 runs from the first 14 overs.
Neil Thompson was the standout wicket-taker with 3-49 as Rochdale posted 188 on a challenging surface.
In reply, Nelson never managed to build momentum, losing wickets regularly throughout the chase. McGladdery hit 26 before he was caught & bowled leaving the scoreboard reading 68-6, Tom Bradshaw’s unbeaten 32 helped secure two batting bonus points before Nelson were bowled out for 153.
The 1st XI will look to bounce back this weekend when they host Rawtenstall at Seedhill on Sunday.
