1sts start with a win
Nelson 1st XI got their 2026 League campaign off to an emphatic start on Sunday.
Visiting Alexander Meadows to face off against East Lancashire in the Summer curtain raiser, a new look Nelson side included a returning Russ Bradley & winter signings Sam Holt, Sam Kelly, Ben Dinning & Tom Bradshaw.
New Professional & Captain Tyler McGladdery won the toss and elected to bat first. Nelson were in a fine position at 124-2, but a collapse in search of quick late innings runs saw the visitors bowled out for 191 in the final over.
Nabeel Ahmed (50), Tyler McGladdery (43) & Hassan Fazal (41) were the main contributors.
Taking the field in the 2nd innings, debutant Sam Kelly & Hassan Fazal were a new look opening partnership and both bowled aggressively at the home side.
Fazal took (4-18) to rip through East Lancs’ top order & with the introduction of Neil Thompson (2-17) & Khurram Nazir (4-26), Nelson finished the job inside 38 overs, with the host finishing on 101, 90 runs short of their target.
Nelson will host Middleton at Seedhill on Sunday in their first home fixture of the 2026 season.
