Top four fire as Nelson rack up record-breaking total in emphatic Seedhill win
Looking to bounce back from defeat to league leaders Crompton the previous week, Nelson produced one of the finest batting displays in the club’s history to defeat East Lancs by 158 runs at Seedhill.
Hassan Fazal (53) and Sam Holt (51) gave Nelson the perfect start, putting on 114 for the opening wicket to lay the foundations for a huge total. Professional and Captain Tyler McGladdery then hit a superb 104 from just 87 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, to register his third league century of the season.
McGladdery and Neil Thompson added an unbroken 153 for the third wicket, with Thompson also continuing his excellent form by finishing unbeaten on 56 from just 47 deliveries, as Nelson closed on a formidable 296-4.
The total was the sixth highest in Nelson’s history, the third highest the club has posted at Seedhill and the fifth highest ever recorded at the ground. It was also only the second time in the club’s history that the top four batters had all passed 50 in the same innings.
Nelson’s bowlers completed the job in equally impressive fashion. Hassan Fazal and Sam Kelly reduced East Lancs to 8-2 before Fazal claimed a second wicket. Khurram Nazir and Gul Sabir entered the attack & left the visitors reeling at 49-5.
Kelly eventually finished with 3-35, while Fazal capped an outstanding all round display with 2-29 as East Lancs closed on 138-7 from their 48 overs.
The 158-run victory leaves Nelson third in Division Two with 10 games remaining.
